The consult with the anesthesiologist went well. I told him about my previous experience with conscious sedation and he said that there is a small percentage of people who become more anxious with these types of medications as opposed to relaxing. He told me what he plans to give me during my retrieval procedure, should it come to that, and assured me that he thought I would do well with the medications. I feel heard, if not yet totally comfortable with the idea of surgery. It was interesting to go visit the surgical area of the clinic. There were 6-8 women sitting in recovery bays and not one of them was crying hysterically, so that was good. I did get a little jittery, but at least I know what it looks like now.
After my consult I grabbed some lunch at a local fast food place and overheard a funny conversation. Two older women were finishing their meal and bemoaning the lack of full service gas stations. One said "I drove all the way from Massachusetts to Florida and didn't find one full service station; I had to get out of the car and do it myself every time. Next time, I'm taking the bus." Apparently sitting on a cramped bus for 20 hours is preferable to having to get out of your car a half dozen times to get gas? People are funny.
